What I'm Learning About Neuroscience in Coaching

I've always had a hard time understanding science and to be perfectly honest, I had very little interest in learning anything taught in physics, biology or chemistry classes in highschool. However, I appreciated the value of centering a statement on scientific facts. Who would have thought that it would take me so long to find a way to practically apply science in my life and understand its value.

About two years ago I started to learn about neuroscience. I was interested in it as it applied to understanding how people make decisions, how they can change or why they have difficulty changing. As I embarked on my coaching certification, I delved deeper and deeper into this. And starting this January, I made the decision to formally start training to become a Certified NeuroTransformational Coach. I enrolled in the BEabove Leadership program, an ICF certified program designed specifically for coaches, covering the latest research in neuroscience, a development map for conscious evolution and a multitude of brain-based coaching tools.
This month, I am celebrating having completed the first quarter of the program. Here are three things I regularly incorporate in my life and my practice as a result of it so far:
The Seven Levels of Personal, Group and Organizational Effectiveness: a wonderful map that outlines the level of consciousness we operate from, bringing into our awareness that the results we get, come from the level of energy we bring. This tool comes in handy in any situation and serves as a good reminder for all of us to be constantly aware of the energy we approach any situation with.

A solid understanding of neuroplasticity and how it applies to everything we do and supports the concept of growth mindset. The idea that the more we pay attention to something or practice it, the stronger the neural pathways in our brain become. If we want to change, we need to get clarity on what we need to focus on less (the thing we want to let go of) and what we need practice more in order to strengthen the new neural pathways till they become automatic.
A clear concept of the two hemispheres of the brain, the role of the pre-frontal cortex and how we can live more often in an integrated state where we are more effective in anything we choose to do.
What I am most excited about is that I now have access to many tools I can use with my coaching clients in one-on-one sessions to help them gain an awareness of how their brain works so that they can live more consciously and intentionally. The clients get to keep the tools after the session and can make use of them in the future.
As I am celebrating a completed first quarter of this program, I am looking for leaders who are eager to play and learn something new. Practice builds mastery and I am practicing using these tools on a weekly basis. I am thrilled to be able to open up the first opportunity to work with me pro-bono since March 2023. This time around, the coaching sessions will be centered around one or more brain-based coaching tools. If you are interested, send me an email. There will be a one hour session available each week between now and the end of November.
